Support for IBEW Local 435 and CEP Local 7 in collective bargaining

CAW Local 2000 extends our support and solidarity with the members and leadership of IBEW Local 435 (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) and CEP Local 7  (Communications Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada) in Winnipeg who are presently in the process of collective bargaining with MTS/Allstream.

Both sets of negotiations are currently in the conciliation process and as of October 4th, the IBEW will be in a legal strike position.

We have been in close contact with both unions for some time and have recently sent a letter of support for the IBEW.  CEP will resume conciliation through October 15th.

It is important that our members understand their rights in this situation.  Under the Canada Labour Code, union members have the right to refuse to perform the work of another union in the event of a strike.  If you are asked to perform the work duties of any member of the IBEW, CEP or any striking union, please contact your steward, Regional VP or myself immediately.

In Solidarity,

Dylan Gadwa
President – CAW Local 2000
